ImpactAfter about 8 months working on this project, we launched this feature in late 2019. It was featured at Google for Indonesia event︎︎︎ and has been receiving positive feedback from qualitative research.

Web translate is a feature that offers translation for any text on web pages so that you can read in your preferred language. It’s already available in several Google products and we made it more accessible to multilingual new internet users.

We leveraged this existing building block in the context of web translate to make our feature more multilingual friendly and keep our high launch velocity by mitigating duplicative engineering work.
While keeping a feature consistency, we made it more optimized for our users based on the research, such as information hierarchy and messaging to be more predictable and clear.
