Search privately

Responsibility
Owned the project from 0 to 1. Identified insight gaps and worked with the research team. Led multiple iterations and prototyped at a high velocity. Worked with content, motion and visual designers as well as various stakeholders. Made an alignment with other feature teams working on similar features to drive consistencies among Google products.
Impact
After a year working on this project with multiple teams, we finally launched this feature in late 2019. It was featured at Google for Indonesia event︎︎︎ and in many articles from Indian publishers such as Times of India︎︎︎.

What’s Google Go?Google Go︎︎︎ is an app that makes the internet useful to new smartphone users. Design outcomes are focused on making a product understandable and useful for people who use the internet for the first time.
Project detailsWe sometimes want to search for something privately, such as surprise gift idea or personal topics. But it’s not easy when your phone is often shared with family or friends. Throughout many iterations and discussions over a year, we made it easy for new internet users to search privately and safely with confidence.

After many iterations, we decided to use a light blue gradient as a background color. It’s more subtle and gave a positive impression from our user studies. For a description, we focused on the use case that our users can easily relate to and in collaboration with a motion designer and a production team, we created a short video tutorial to explain the full flow in a visual and immersive way.
It was critical to work with the research team to iterate and prepare for user studies without losing momentum. I learned and built high fidelity prototypes with UX engineer on the team to smooth out a remote study set up and get more comprehensive feedback.
